My favorite tattoo designs: Part 3 – anatomical tattoos

When it comes to tattooing, one of my favorite subjects is anatomy. Skulls or other bones, the whole body is not only fascinating but also beautifully complex. Anatomy is something we all have in common. Whether it’s a skull or a rib cage, these body parts tell stories about our structure.

Skulls in particular are a motif that I am often drawn to. What is important to me is not the idea that skulls are scary or macabre, but their true purpose and beauty. Our skulls are strong and functional; they protect our brains. We can feel our skull under our skin, it reminds me of our physicality and the layers that make up our bodies.

I especially enjoy tattooing anatomical designs in the woodcut/etching style, as the linework allows me to show the form and depth of anatomical features, almost like an old medical print. Since I also enjoy making lino prints myself, the woodcut/etching style is particularly fitting for anatomical motifs.

If you’re fascinated by the beauty of human or animal anatomy and are considering getting an anatomical tattoo, I’d love to bring your ideas to life in a unique design. Whether you’re thinking about bones or another body part like the heart, feel free to reach out to chat about your next tattoo.
