Birds are definitely one of my favorite tattoo motifs. They are incredibly versatile and offer plenty of creative possibilities. I find it particularly exciting how different birds can be – from large birds of prey to colorful hummingbirds. Each has its own character, which I want to capture in my designs. In the Neotraditional style, I can play with rich colors and fine details to portray their beauty and vibrancy. Whether they are bold crows or gentle songbirds, there are always ways to highlight their unique characteristics.

At the same time, birds are not an easy subject as their anatomy is very complex. With the wings, for example, it is a challenge to depict the details of the feathers while keeping an eye on the ageing process – after all, the tattoo should still look good in 10 years‘ time.

Black birds are particularly suitable as cover-up tattoos, as their dark plumage covers the old tattoo well and the structure of the feathers disguises the pattern of the original tattoo.
